The matriculation examination is a stage through which the children can be judged for the first ever certificate. what they have information and knowledge in there specific time period by grades, marks, or any other method is termed as examinations.

Basically the examination is the last but not the least stage in learning process. To know about the abilities, talents and strength of a child exam is a perfect way.

Examinations are systematic assessments of knowledge, skills, and abilities. They come in various types, including:

  1. Summative Examinations: These are typically end-of-term or end-of-year assessments designed to measure overall learning and knowledge retention.
  2. Formative Assessments: These are ongoing assessments that provide feedback to students and teachers during the learning process, aiding in improvement.
  3. Standardized Tests: These exams use uniform content and scoring methods, allowing for comparisons across students or institutions.

Examinations can be administered in several ways:

  1. Written Exams: The traditional pen-and-paper method where students answer questions on paper.
  2. Oral Exams: Students answer questions verbally, often used for assessing communication skills.
  3. Practical Exams: These assess practical skills and abilities, commonly used in technical and vocational fields.

 

Challenges of the Examination System in Pakistan:

The examination system in Pakistan faces numerous challenges, including:

  1. Rote Learning: A significant challenge is the prevalence of rote learning, where students memorize information without truly understanding it. This hinders critical thinking and innovation.
  2. High-Stakes Pressure: The pressure to perform well in exams is immense, often leading to stress, anxiety, and mental health issues among students.
  3. Inequity: Socioeconomic disparities can affect the quality of education and access to resources, creating an uneven playing field for students.

Beside these there are some other issues that are related to exams system in Pakistan that are

  1. Parents demand of high marks and grades without knowing their child ability.
  2. In appropriate teaching styles and methods that teach only the student how to just pass or make grades through any legal or illegal way.
  3. The exams departments (boards/universities) also play a brutal role in contaminating the exam as well as learning process, personal relationship, corruption and goose system totally damaged the exam process.

 

Consequences of matriculation examination in Pakistan

This examination system produce only degree holders not educated citizens as

  1. All the students, their parents and teachers follow all the illegal ways just to get marks in exams so they all lose their dignity, honesty and character.
  2. Students lose the ability of hard work just learn cheating.
  3. The learning level of students drop down.
  4. The creativity, innovation and reasoning abilities become zero.
  5. The behavior level of students crashed out.
  6. The level of unemployment increase as the unable students got high marks but their mental level is so weak.
  7. Skill-less citizens produce.

 

Suggestions for matriculation examination system

As we all know that the exam system of Pakistan is outdated, there are some suggestion to get on track.

  • Change the exams style not only depends on written , oral and practical exams must be included.
  • Minimize the subjective questions.
  • Maximize the objective, MCQs, match column , true false, and other such things in exams
  • Use of machines in paper making and checking process.
  • 100% SLO based papers.
  • Show all the result with papers publicly to minimize the cheating and corruption in board and universities.
  • Eliminating the top position holders ceremonies, just apricate students on the bases of their abilities.
  • Arranging quiz/story/essay/science/math and poetry competitions among different school.
